Buying vs. DIY-ing

The pictured rounds were cut in a single DIY session, using the process and tools that'll be outlined inside the course curriculum. Below, I compare what it would cost to purchase these pre-cut, vs. how much it costed to cut them myself.

Cost to purchase these rounds: $602 - $983 (depending on supplier, not including shipping and other fees like taxes and import charges)

Cost to DIY these rounds: $110 (in supplies)

Inside the Course

Since starting on my mandala journey, I've been cutting rounds with my dad (a retired carpenter) who now, happens to live two hours away. Decide to create the DIY Rounds course was my opportunity to create my own rounds-cutting set up where I live, from scratch, recording the start-to-finish process so that I can teach you to do the same for yourself.

You don't need anything to get started other than a desire to learn, a belief that you're capable (even if you've never done anything like this before), and a budget to buy what you need (scroll down for details on what's needed and how much you can inspect to spend getting set up.

What you'll need

(to start DIY-ing your mandala rounds)

Inside the course, I'll go over everything you need to invest in, in order to create your DIY rounds set-up. I'll give options for purchasing second-hand on websites like Facebook Marketplace, budget-friendly options on Amazon (which is what I did in order to walk myself through the DIY process taught inside the course) or choose the highest quality tools and supplies if buying the best is how you roll. An up-front investment of between $50 and $350 USD (depending on which options you choose to buy/what you already own), will be required to get set up, after which you only need to purchase the materials for your rounds, which cost about $30 - $40 for a 48" X 96" sheet of MDF or plywood (which will be enough to cut a large number of rounds, for example: thirty-two X 12" rounds OR eight X 24" rounds OR 3 X 32" rounds).

Here's roughly what you'll need to have, purchase or borrow to cut your own rounds:

A work bench or table
I built my own for the sake of the curriculum (a bonus module inside the course) for approximately $90, however I could have sourced one on marketplace for less, used the patio table in our backyard, or used my neighbour's wood shop, which they offered for free

A jig saw
A common tool that's easy to borrow if you don't already have one. I bought one for $30 on Amazon, but also found a second-hand option for $10 on Marketplace. *You could get away without a jig saw if you have access to a table saw.

A helper + second person!
While technically you could DIY your mandala rounds with one person, I highly recommend having a second set of hands as it makes the process easier, faster and safer!

A plunge Router
This is the main piece of machinery you'll need, as it cuts the actual circles out of your MDF or plywood. The one I recommend is of high quality and costs $175 (USD) on Amazon, however many people will already have these, find someone to borrow from, or source one on Amazon for a fraction of the cost (I found ones in my area starting at $20).

An electric drill

Electric sander or sand paper

Material (MDF or Plywood)

Safety gear (a mask and goggles)

A full module inside the course is dedicated to helping you source everything you need, with recommendations and purchase links provided to fit a variety of budgets.

The best part? Once you make the initial investment and get yourself set up to DIY your own rounds, you'll save hundreds and even thousands of dollars/year, and never have to pay another shipping fee or feel limited by what's available and the sizes of mandalas you're able to paint.

Yes, you CAN cut your own rounds.

I find that what stops most people (women especially) from DIY-ing something that involves power tools like cutting mandala rounds, is their belief that they don't know how or they need experience in order to even try.

However, this simply isn't the case, and that’s exactly why I created this course.

Cutting your own rounds is so much more approachable than it might seem. You don’t need a fancy workshop, thousands of dollars in equipment, or years of woodworking experience. You need the right tools, a simple setup, and someone to show you exactly what to do.

That’s what I’m going to teach you, step by step, so you can go from “I could never make that myself” to “Wait… I can make ANY size I want?!”

Because once you know how to make your own rounds, an entirely new world of creative possibility opens up.
